This series is a reflection on a photograph of my mother
in the 1990s after her immigration to the United States
from India. In this original inspiration, she is playing
mini golf in a sky blue churidar.
My mother mailed me one of her saris which I used to
(sacreligiously) cut and sew this vibrant yellow, modest
dress. With the support of two photographers, I creat-
ed this series depicting myself partaking in stereotypically French activities, as I currently reside in France.
My short hair as well as my surroundings contradict
the connotations of my dress. Each photo highlights a
clashing of cultures and a sense of displacement.
